Program Description:
This course will help you become a more engaged citizen. To understand many of the important civil rights issues of today, we need to better understand social justice struggles of yesterday. You will visit sites in Alabama where the well-known battles of civil rights took place in the 1960s at the height of the classical civil rights movement. You will study books, film, and other material to put these places into historical context. You will ask significant questions, such as “who owns history” and “how do we commemorate our civil rights past in appropriate ways.”
