Program Aims:
Minnesota State University, Mankato's Study Abroad in Spain, Ecuador, or Costa Rica program offers a serious academic experience that affords an opportunity to study the Spanish language, Spanish Culture, and Spanish or Spanish American Literature in a natural setting. The program welcomes the participation of not only those who intend to Major or Minor in Spanish but also those who desire to use Spanish as a collateral skill for a variety of occupations. The program concentrates on intensive study of the Spanish language and Spanish Peninsular or Spanish American Culture. Course work in Spanish Peninsular Literature (Spain) or in Spanish American Literature (Ecuador and Costa Rica) is also available for qualified and interested students. Even persons with no previous study of Spanish are welcome to participate.
MSU is affiliated with COSI (the Costa Rica Spanish Institute} in the capital city of San José and Manuel Antonio, on the Pacific Coast. San José is in a friendly and relatively tranquil city with easy access to both ocean coasts. Manuel Antonio is a small city on the Pacific Coast where beautiful beaches and natural phenomena abound. Students may study in either or both locations.

Summer 2022 Sessions
(4 weeks) May 16 - June 10, 2022 = 3-6 UG credits, 12-24 class hours per week
(4 weeks) June 13 - July 8, 2022 = 3-6 UG credits, 12-24 class hours per week
(8 weeks) May 16 - July 8, 2022 = 6-8 UG credits, 12-24 class hours per week
Fall Semester 2022
(12 weeks) August 22 - November 11, 2022 = 12 UG credits, 24 hours of instruction per week
(16 weeks) August 22 - December 9, 2022 = 15-18 UG credits, 24 hours of instruction per week
Spring Semester 2023
(12 weeks) January 9 - March 31, 2023 = 12 UG credits, 24 hours of instruction per week
(16 weeks) January 9 - April 28, 2023 = 15-18 UG credits, 24 hours of instruction per week

General Conditions:

20 Spanish lessons and 4 cultural lessons per week

Accommodation with families (single room, breakfast and dinner).

1 full-day trip areas of interest close to the chosen city each week and maximum of: Two at 4-week session; Three at 8-week session; Four at 12 to 16-week session.

Individual pick-up transfer from San José airport and transfer to accommodation and drop-off to the airport
NOT included: plane tickets, exit taxes, lunches, travel & health insurance, and personal expenses. We highly recommend hiring health insurance.
